Home > Tanzania > Tanzania Balloon Safaris
A Balloon Safari is one of the most popular additions to any safari holidays in East Africa and nowhere is it more popular than in Kenya and Tanzania.
Balloon Safaris usually take off just before dawn so that you are high above the plains in time for sunrise which in definitely worth getting out of bed for.
Balloon Safaris usually last for about an one hour and once you return back to earth your treated to a champagne breakfast. It is easy to see why an Balloon safari in Tanzania is very popular with honeymoon couples!
Serengeti Balloon Safaris
The only company operating hot air balloon safaris in Tanzania is Serengeti Balloon Safaris and as the name suggests operate out of the Serengeti National Park.
The Serengeti has the largest concentration of wildlife in the world and famous for annual wildlife migration. With over a million wildebeest and about 200,000 zebras moving south from the northern hills to the southern plains for the short rains every October and November, and then turning west and north after the long rains in April, May and June, there are plenty of opportunities for huge panoramic views and spotting the wildlife from above.
People often ask if they are already booked on a safari package can they still fit in a balloon safari?
Serengeti Balloon Safaris: "Yes can, providing you are staying the night before the balloon safari at any of the central Serengeti lodges (Seronera, Serena or Sopa Lodge) or central campsites. We collect you before the flight and return you to Seronera Lodge at 9.30am to join the rest of your party & continue your day's activities."
You need to book in advance with your tour operator to make sure you book a place as there are only two balloons in the entire serengeti national park so this is truly an exclusive adventure!
How much do balloon safaris cost?
Prices are usually around US$450
When is the best time of year for ballooning in Serengeti?
Conditions are generally favourable year round in Serengeti and they fly throughout the year depending on weather and the area has abundant resident wildlife populations including lion, leopard, hippo, buffalo, giraffe and various antelope. The wildebeest migration usually pass through the Seronera Valley late May or early June. They return again usually late October or early November.
