Kruger National Park & Surrounding Areas

This area is sometimes referred to as The Greater Kruger National Park, or the Kruger National Park game preservation area and consists of the Kruger National Park itself, its private concessions and the bordering private reserves. The region literally teems with game and represents Africa that most visitors come to experience. This area, covering more than 20 000km2, is South Africa's premier game sanctuary, which, due to its sheer size, - remains unspoilt.

The Kruger National Park

The Kruger National Park is the flagship of the South African national parks and ranks with the best in Africa. Created in 1898 to protect the wildlife of the South African Lowveld. At almost 2 million hectares and stretches from just above Swaziland in the south to the Zimbabwean border in the north, it is the size of Wales or Israel, 350km long and up to 60km wide. The Sabi Sands

The Sabi Sand Game Reserve is part of the Kruger National Park game preservation area and was created in 1948. It shares a 50Km unfenced border with the Kruger National Park and is actually made up from a number of smaller private game reserves, which include Djuma Game reserve, Exeter Game Reserve, Singita Game Reserve, Mala Mala Game Reserve, Londolozi Game Reserve, Lion Sands Game Reserve, Sabi Sabi and Ulusaba. Duma Manzi Private Game Reserve

Located in near the sea side city of Natal in South Africa, Duma Manzi private Game reserve is an excellent choice if you plan to combine a safari holiday location with a beach holiday in South Africa. There is plenty of game, including species not often seen in larger reserves, stunning scenery, game drives as well as walking safaris and wildernes trails. Timbavati Nature Reserve

Timbavati Nature Reserve lies just north of Sabi Sand on the western edge of Kruger National Park. The fences have also been taken down between this reserve and Kruger National Park and although visitors to any of the eight private lodges, remain in the Timbavati Reserve, the animals are at able to roam where they wish, so you can expect to see all of the big 5 as well as pretty much everything else you'll find in the Kruger National Park.

Balule Private Game Reserve

Balule ideally located between the Phalaborwa and Kruger Park's Orpen Gate, is home to the Big- Five and is part of the "Greater Kruger National Park" offering the animals free roaming between the Krugerpark and the private reserves. Balule Private Nature Reserve was created when the farm owners dropped the game fences between their farms and has grown to 40.000 hectares. Accommodation ranges from luxury and air-conditioned lodges to self-catering bush lodges.

The Kalahari Gemsbok National Park

Created in 1931 and is One of Africa's great parks. Together with the adjacent Gemsbok National Park in Botswana, have been formed into the Kgalagadi transfrontier park of over 3,6 million ha and with only the dry river bed of the Nosop river dividing the two parks this is a huge area where some of Africa's best wildlife can roam free. >> more
