The cost of South Africa flights can vary a lot depending on the time of year you wish to travel. I have found that probably the most expensive time is over Christmas when not only do you have many people going out to South Africa for the holidays, but you also have plenty of South Africans who live in the UK going home to visit their family over the Christmas period. If you are wanting to go on Safari here is an excellent tip: South Africa makes an excellent winter sun holiday destination, the wildlife is way easier to spot in the bush during winter, staying at a lodge will not only cost you less, but will have less guests and so you will get much more personal attention when out on Safari. Around June and July there are plenty of discount flights to South Africa available. During winter the South Africa weather is usually dry and sunny and depending on where you are, it can get very in the evenings and early mornings.

The internet has made comparing prices for air travel much easier, but even so you still have to do a little research. What I usually do is go onto one of the flight comparison websites like Opodo above, fill in your requirements and e what they come back with. Often this will be enough, but it can also pay to then take the flights you are interested in and just check with the actual airline's website to see if they don't have the flight at a cheaper price. To be honest I have never had such luck and it is usually the flight comparison sites that either are the same price or work out cheaper.

An important consideration is that the comparison sites do not always compare all airlines that fly to South Africa, so shop around spend some time and it could save you some money.

I have found that with flights to South Africa, there are very few lastminute deals and it is often more expensive the later you leave it and it seems as the flights fill up, the put the prices up, this is especially true over busy periods like Christmas, so my advice would be to book your tickets early.
