Different Safari Holidays
Home > Safari Planner > Safari Types
There is a huge array of Safari holiday options currently available these days, but which one is right for you and where best to find the safari of you dreams, here we hope to make that choice for you an easier one by showing you the options and what you can expect from each one.
Safari Lodge Holiday
From fairly basic safari lodges to the ultimate five star accommodation the choice is yours. Most safari lodges can arrange for you to be transported from the airport to the lodge on the reserve, so no hastle there! Most days consist of sunrise game drives or bush walks, back in time for a full english breakfast, then you'll probably spend the heat of the day lazing by the pool, another game drive in the afternoon stopping somewhere for a sundowner as another say in Africa draws to a close, then its back to the lodge for luxury dinner or boma braai (bbq)
Excellent places to stay at a Safari Lodge

Welgevonden Game Reserve - South Africa
Hwange National Park - Zimbabwe
Canoeing Safari
Drifting silently up to animals on river banks, a different angle on animal sightings: hippos, crocs, elephants in the water other species like Zebra, Buffalo and Waterbuck coming to the waters edge to drink. Camping under the stars and listening to lions roar deep in to the night. A canoe safari can be a magical experience

Self Drive (Independent) Safari
Arrive
at the airport, pick up your hire car
and then the holiday is yours, you do all the planning and you decide
where to go and when. Advantages of this type of Safari include
convenience & price. On the flip side you wont have the benefit
of an experienced guide at hand and you probably wont get to those
really out of the way places, that only locals know about. Read
the following article on a self drive
holiday in Kenya & our guide to Self Drive Safaris in South Africa.

Being on foot will enable you to get truly close to experiencing the sights, smells and sounds of the African bush. You probably wont get to see the "Big 5" in one day but a walking safari more than makes up for this by making you feel part of the bush and appreciating different aspects of the echo system.

Balloon Safari
Sunrise, and you are peacefully floating over the African bush on your balloon safari the only sound is the occasional blast of the balloon's burners and the cry of the birds and animals below.
The feeling is almost indescribable and you'll gain a whole new perspective on the African bush and it's wildlife.
After landing, your usually treated to a Champagne breakfast and take away nothing but great memories.
