Sunbeach Hotel Gambia
The Sun Beach Hotel Gambia
The Sunbeach Resort is ideal for families, couples and anyone looking for a holiday away from it all. Spread throughout the spacious grounds, the hotel has a relaxing atmosphere and is located next to a small sandy beach set away from the resort, this is for those looking for a relaxing, tranquil setting with low key nightlife. The rooms at the Sun Beach Hotel Gambia are arranged in single story buildings throughout the gardens and are of a good standard with mini-bar, hairdryer, TV, telephone, safe, air-conditioning and patio. In the evenings entertainment is provided by the hotels own staff or visiting artists. There are two restaurants, the main restaurant serving buffet breakfast and dinner and the open air La Cucina offering Italian, seafood and international cuisine which can be served beside the pool or overlooking the beach. Within the Cape Point area there is a supermarket, craft market and a few restaurants within walking distance. |
Abuko Nature Reserve
A Holiday in Gambia would never be complete without a trip to Abuko Nature Reserve. At only 1km², it is the smallest game reserve in Africa. This takes nothing away from it and it is a delightful place to visit. Amidst the lush vegetation you'll spy the nile crocodile, troops of callithrix monkeys, bushbuck antelope, lizards and beautiful birds.
Tumani Tenda
To get the real taste of Africa and get the true Gambia experience, you have to travel inland. Tumani Tenda is an eco-tourism venture run by people from the nearby village. It is situated 25 km East of Brikama and 3 km from Kafatu, a tributary of the Gambia River. Most birdwatchers come to see the rare brown-necked parrots that frequent the area, but there's also a hide where you can see porcupines and bushbuck. There are manatees in these creeks, but you have to be very lucky to see one.
Jinack Island
Jinack Island is part of Nuimi National Park which covers a huge area of the North Bank of the Gambia and joins together with the Sine-Saloum Park of Senegal.
It is a place to go to unwind. There are 11km of sandy beaches frequented only by the occasional osprey, flock of sanderling and the occasional pod of Atlantic humpback dolphins. The interior is really good for birdwatching, especially for European migrants during the winter months and if you are very luck you could spot a leopard, hyena or warthog.
Authentic Gambian Food
For an authentic eating experience head for the capital Banjul. Here there's a host of cafes and restaurants where you can sample – amongst other things - a typical Gambian stew. One delicious variety is domoda which is made from peanut butter. Banjul's Albert Market is also worth a visit. Here you'll find everything from wooden carvings and jewellery to rainbow coloured robes.

When to go & Cheap Flights to Gambia
Mid-October to early June is the dry season and coincides with the main tourist season, and so flights to Gambia are cheaper and more regular and there is almost guaranteed sunshine. This is the best time to find the European migrant birds that visit The Gambia.
Between August and December wildlife is a lot easier to see during
the latter part of the dry season when the vegetation has died down.
This is also a great time of the year to spot Butterflies and dragonflies.
Mid-June to early October is the wet season, it is hot and humid and the best time for flowering plants, amphibians, reptiles and intra-African migrant birds such as cuckoos. The vegetation grows tall at the end of the season, so wildlife viewing can be difficult then.
